Living in a shed with a dirt floor, no electricity and no running water sounds like another place, another world – to most kiwi kids. Sadly, it is home to some of our most vulnerable children. We’ve witnessed it with our own eyes, otherwise we might not believe it either.
Others have good basic homes but not enough to keep warm and healthy. Not enough to get to school on cold or wet days.
Many families share beds, and sleep together on a mattress in one room. One family we supported for our Hospice ‘Memory Making Moments’ Angel treat had a weekend away at a motel at Waiwera. The children were so excited to not only have their own bed, but the kids had their own room. This was just as exciting as having their first trip away. Mum has terminal cancer.
To survive a child needs warmth, food and shelter as basic necessities. To thrive, they need more. Let’s show them we care. Let’s make a difference.
We have Auckland Schools helping via ‘Coats For Kids-Auckland to Northland’. If you know a school that would like to join us, they can contact us here.
Thank-you for helping us Keep Our Kids Warm.
