WHINA- Take care of our children

We were super privileged to celebrate the amazing life of Dame Whina Cooper with her mokopuna and whānau from across the motu. Not only were we graced with the company of Dame Whina’s whānau, we also had Co-Director Paula Whetu-Jones with us.  We were all moved and inspired by the story of this incredible wāhine, brought to life in the biopic ‘Whina’.

For so many years we have had Dame Whina Cooper’s quote on our wall:  “Take care of our children. Take care of what they hear. Take care of what they see. For how the children grow, so will the shape of Aotearoa.”

So true. What we invest in our children now will reap rewards in the future.

After a warm and heartfelt pōwhiri from our local hāpu, Ngāti Rehia, we shared kai and had an exciting auction showcasing the auctioneering talents of a local rangatahi. Nick is a senior at Kerikeri High School and with the support of super generous sponsors, he helped us raise over $10k!
