Hairy angels and so much aroha

We did it—we filled the room with aroha and manaakitanga—again. Because this community does that!

All of those who have made the sacrifice have a story. Emotion. Aroha. Kindness.

Yes, we celebrate them, and so we should. They chose to lose their hair for many reasons—and all with the overall wish to bring some relief to vulnerable and disadvantaged kids.

This charity started in 2012 with a powerful fundraiser that began a road to recovery and well-being. People in that group had recovered from cancer and shaved to give the big C the finger.

One was a child who’d recovered from major brain surgery and didn’t mind the world seeing her massive scar. One was an 80-year-old who said she was taking her control back!

The 2012 funds raised, $45k, created the Angel Treats project at Mid North Hospice.

The 2015 Guinness World Record Head Shave raised $62k and helped support so many youth via kiwiMANA and Angel emergency care.

This time the funds raised are 100% for Christmas gifts and Kai Plus teen hygiene packs. So far we are at $37,000, and we’d love to reach our target of $50,000.

And it was our birthday, so we had cake! See the pic of kids digging in.

We are respecting others who are ill, disadvantaged, isolated, and vulnerable in our everyday mahi (work).

And every Angel who went bald, donated, celebrated, and supported the Shave4Kids campaign truly deserves a halo.

Thank you—ngā mihi nui kia koe.
